Flushin’ Friday: Revenge of the Root Invasion

You water your trees. You love your trees.

But guess what loves your pipes?

Those same trees. Their roots are on a mission from below - and they’re not here to be polite.

This week’s Flushin’ Friday is all about nature’s slow-motion plumbing disaster: root invasions. Plus get a special discount on septic and water treatment systems.

Let’s dig in (pun absolutely intended).

Tip of the Week:

Defend Your Pipes from Tree Takeover

Tree roots love tiny leaks and old joints - but you’re not powerless.

  •  Know where your sewer line runs. Avoid planting root-happy trees like mulberries, eucalyptus, or Chinese pistache near your sewer line. Their roots will find it… and wreck it.

  •  Avoid “flushable” wipes and grease. Roots feed on your bad habits.

  •  Get a camera inspection if your drains are slow, smelly, or gurgling.

  •  Flush the right stuff:

    • Use a foaming root killer like RootX AFTER a professional clearing. It coats your pipes and prevents regrowth.

    • Copper sulfate can also work but must be used with caution and never on septic systems.

Think of it as flossing for your pipes, a little regular maintenance keeps the big surgeries away.

If your home’s on a septic system, get it inspected before it becomes a 10pm emergency.

Routine maintenance saves you from the “Why is that bubbling in the backyard?” moment.

Mention you saw them in the One Call Plumbing newsletter for a special discount.

Maintenance Minute:

How Roots Wreck Your Pipes

Roots don’t need a wide open pipe, they’ll wiggle into a crack the width of a pencil lead.

Then they grow.

And grow.

And suddenly your toilet sounds like it’s gargling regret.

Here’s how it plays out:

  1. Tiny leak forms at a pipe joint.

  2. Roots say “oh hey, free water!”

  3. They break in, multiply, and throw a clog party.

  4. Your whole system backs up while you Google “Is toilet geyser covered by insurance?”

Best move? Get your sewer line camera-inspected before your backyard starts bubbling like a witch’s cauldron.

Leaky Laugh of the Week:

Why did the tree root get a plumbing bill?

Because it just couldn’t keep its branch out of other people’s business.

Weird Thing We Found This Week:

We once pulled a root system the size of a toddler from a sewer main.

It waved at us on the way out.

We named it “Twiggy.”
